Last Minute Reminders for our BMW Centennial Celebration

BMW_CentennialCelebrationDraft_300px464Here are some last minute reminders for our BMW Centennial Celebration:

Bring Cash

If you want to buy an extra hat or other goodies, bring cash. We’ll be able to take credit cards but it is slower than just forking over a $20 bill. You’ll also want to consider cash for ACM admission (we’ll have discount, $10 tickets) and food.

Which LeMay Museum?

This event is at America’s Car Museum, the silver building next to the Tacoma Dome that can be seen from Interstate 5. It is not at the LeMay Family Foundation site in Spanaway, where the E30 Picnic is held.

Parking Procedure

When you arrive, you will be directed where to park. You won’t be able to park with your friends unless you all arrive together. We are not parking by type of car either. We’re just jamming them in as they arrive.

Wash Your Car

This isn’t a judged show. It is a celebration and party to celebrate 100 years of BMW. But you still don’t want to embarrass yourself by bringing a filthy car to display. At least wash it, please.

There will be at least one food truck on site but we’re concerned that the turn-out may overwhelm the truck’s operators. You may want to consider packing a picnic lunch. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the field.

Discount Tickets for ACM

America’s Car Museum has put together an amazing display of BMWs which will be featured at the Museum for the next year. But since you’ll be there, there’s plenty of time and the Club will have discount tickets, why not visit on May 15th? There are some amazing and extraordinarily valuable BMWs included. You really do not want to miss this.

Volunteer Help Needed

We are expecting the Centennial Celebration to be the biggest event the chapter has ever held. Something like this doesn’t happen without the work of a lot of volunteers. We’ve got a few experienced hands already signed up but we could use more help. If you can help with registration, selling of stuff or clean up, please volunteer. If you’re willing to volunteer, contact Club President Steve Libby at President@bmwpugetsound.com. At the very least, at the end of the day, please clean up around your car before leaving the field. Thanks.

Pre-registration closes at 11:59 pm on May 13th. There are no cancellations after this time. If you are pre-registered and do not show up, we will not issue a refund.

BMW_CentennialCelebrationHat_325pxPrice of Extra Hats and Stuff

Due to extraordinary demand, we will have extra event hats for sale for $20. There will also be magnets, window clings and posters.

Our new/old/recycled Regional Vice President, Jeff Cowan, is coming to town to attend this event. He’s flying up from the Bay Area the day before. If you see him, be sure to say hi.

Driving Directions

From I-5 either northbound or southbound,

Take exit 133,

Get into the right lane,

Turn right onto E 26th Street,

Turn right at the second cross street onto E D Street.

BMW’s official 100th birthday is March 7, 2016.

There will be an official ceremony at the new BMW Group Classic building on that day. This will be the grand opening for this building, which is actually one of the original buildings occupied soon after the company was founded but is receiving a two-year makeover. However, the big parties come later in the year.

BMW Veteranan Club Deutschland Jahrestreffen (Annual Meeting)

This event will run from May 4 through May 8 with sightseeing, a visit to the BMW motorcycle plant and the Classic Remise. The Classic Remise is a display of participating vehicles at the 1936 Olympic grounds. The host hotel is the Seminaris Campus Hotel in Berline-Dahlem.

BMW 02 Club Celebration

The BMW 02 Club in Germany is celebrating 100 years of BMW and 50 years of the 02 with a tour of Bavaria. The event will take place from May 25 to 29. A fun rally is included plus visits to the BMW Museum, BMW Welt and BMW Classic.

BMW Classic 100 Year Celebration

BMW Classic, the official keeper of the flame, will be holding what will probably be the biggest of all Centennial celebrations from September 9 through 11. The Munich Olympic Grounds, adjacent to BMW Welt, have been reserved. All recognized BMW clubs, employees and friends of the marque are invited.

Specific plans should have been released by now but there has been nothing official. Expect a parade through the Olympic grounds and a drive through Munich. A visit to the new BMW Classic Center will also be included.

The biggest North American celebration will be on the Monterey Peninsula in August. BMW will be the featured marque at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca in 2016. BMW Classic will have a huge presence during the entire Monterey Weekend. Pebble Beach does not have any plans yet related to BMW but that may be changing (we hear). The Monterey races will be August 19 to 21. Legends of the Autobahn will be on August 19th. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will be on August 21st. It is not too early to make reservations.

The BMW CCA Oktoberfest will be on the Monterey Peninsula and will start after the Monterey Weekend ends and will run from August 23rd through August 28th.

We’ll publish more specifics as we learn them.
