Presidents Column – Q2 2018
Spring is nature’s way of saying “let’s party,” according to Robin Williams. Truer words have never been spoken. By the time you read this article, we will be well into March. Watch the ATS emails for upcoming events. I keep writing this to you all, but it is really important that you update your email address to get these announcements. If you find that the ATS emails are going to spam, mark them as “not spam” if you are using Gmail and then you will get all of the latest news. We are working diligently on the website to fill in all the holes; we are almost there.
Spring is the time of plans and projects. Leo Tolstoy from Anna Karenina. Spring time is also a time to think about the future. We have been announcing board position vacancies and asking members to participate in very specific ways. Evan Kohout, our Webmaster, will be hosting Cars and Coffeeon coming Saturdays. Plan on meeting him there to talk about all things BMW! You all know I am a track person; think about doing a Car Control Clinic and then a High Performance Driving Education day. You purchased the Ultimate Driving Machine, go out and use it. If going fast on the track not your thing, we have the solution to this. On March 31, we will be having a tour to the Cascade Foothills, ending at DirtFish Rally School. Unfortunately, they will not let us take our cars out on the dirt, but you can with their cars! Let me tell you, it is a blast. Plan on doing more driving events this year!
Projects are something that keeps the hands and mind sharp. If you have a place to safely work on your car, do so. There is something therapeutic about working on a machine and getting it to run well or at all. This coming from a microbiologist; I love showing up in the lab with grease under my fingernails. Why do I advocate this? Because we live in a very technical, back-lit screen world and I think we need a break. Do something with your car beside put gas in it!
I greatly look forward to the coming year. We have some very interesting and novel events planned for the summer. May 11 is the first track day of the year and it seems a long way off and I need to start getting the speedy 318is TRAKCAR ready for 2018!
See you out there,
