Recap: Burgers and BMWs 2019 May 26

Burgers & BMWs Drone photo by Chris Randall

Rain, what rain? Rain does not stop the BMW faithful here in the Northwest. On Sunday, May 26th, we held our annual Burgers and BMWs at the Triple XXX Root Beer Drive-in in Issaquah. The day started out with mist, then drizzle, then light rain. But the BMWs started rolling in and soon we had filled the upper lot. BMW Seattle and BMW Bellevue brought out brand new cars for all of us to drool upon: Z4, 850i, X7, i8 Roadster, X3M40i, M2 Competition, and a G20 3 Series. I tried to give away the Z4 but was met with a scowl from BMW Seattle representatives! Mi Ae Lipe brought a new X7 courtesy of BMW NA to demonstrate the advanced electronic driver aides now available on most new BMWs. Watch for her article in Roundel describing the function of these very sophisticated safety systems. A member brought his drone and captured the photo you see here I counted over 314 cars and I know there were more cars parked on the street and in the lots just east of the Triple XXX Regardless, it was a great success.

Thank you to Greg Smith and Phil Sanders who organized the event. We also had assistance from Andy and Tammy Wiest who helped park by having on-the-job training to maneuver the tsunami of BMWs streaming into the lot. Jim Millet was the friendly face at the entrance taking the $10 that will all be donated to Life Enrichment Options. We do not have the final number yet, but it goes to a great cause. I would also like to thank the two young guys who showed up at about 7:30 am and wanted to park, then immediately were put to work!

Finally, thank you BMW owners, club members and others, who came out to show off your Ultimate Driving Machines!!
